Knit a Block A week Challenge.

I have been hinting for weeks so I think it's about time to let you know what I'm going to be up to. I am challenging myself again and inviting you all to join me,  I always work better when I'm challenged don't you? I find it very motivating. Last year I was given this book for my birthday

and although I have had lots of pleasure looking through the book I haven't actually made many blocks from it as yet.  So because I had so much fun with the Beyond the square challenge with Barbara back in 2012 I decided to do it again but this time with knitting.

I know lots of you love to knit, for you this challenge can inspire you to try out new patterns and stitches you have never tried before.
For those who want to learn this is the ideal opportunity, there are simple blocks to make in this book and step by step, directions on the knitting basics.

I am challenging myself to make at least one different block a week out of this book so is anyone else up for the challenge?  These blocks are all 6 inch square when made in Dk yarn so they will be easy to join together to make something beautiful.

I'm not trying to promote this book in anyway but I do think it's a good one to have in your craft library... please read the customer reviews about it before you make your decision to buy it if you don't have it already.

I plan to start this challenge at the beginning of January, I'm telling you about it now so that you can put this book on your Christmas present list if you want to join in.

I have already told the ladies from Loving hands about the challenge and many of them can't wait to get started, I hope you will join in too, lets see who can make the most!

Please just leave me a comment if you would like to join in and I will list your names and give you more details about the challenge later.

The Challenge is now up and running!

You can see finished Blocks and blanket here.

  5. I wish I could join, but I don´t have that book. I searched in the iTunes library, but they don't have that book :-( Our mail system is horrible, so I won´t even consider buying it online. But I will be looking forward to see your progress, and if you give a good report, I will tr to buy it when I travel.

    1. That's a shame Ana, I would offer to send it to you but if your postal system is bad it might get lost in the post. I can recommend the book, I have enjoyed just looking at all the blocks the past year. :)

  6. Hello, Linda. I've already joined up through Loving Hands. I'm sitting on my hands until Jan 1st. If you would like me to look through my book and recommend some squares for beginners, I'd be happy to do that.

  7. Aaawh Linda, I'd love to compete with you again, but unfortunately I'm such a bad knitter with no intentions to improve my skills. Yet. But I'll watch your progress for sure, and who knows, maybe I'll join in later.
I don't know this book, but I have Jan Eaton's books about the crochet blocks, and I think it's pretty good! Have fun, I think it's a great idea!!

  9. I'd love to join up with you Linda! I'll give a note to my husband for the book for Christmas. Will you be asking everyone to make the same block on the same week? I've been making some blanket squares already, so this will be a welcome addition to my little stack. Wendy x

    1. Brilliant Wendy!! so glad you are joining in. No the choice of block is up to you because everyone has different knitting skills what may be easy for one may not be for another, it's going to be fun! :)

  11. Ooh, how tempting ! But I have just bought 2 weeks ago the crochet version of that book.
However I just got myself the cutest knitting needles (I will show them off soon) and although I can knit the basics, one my projects for 2014 was to learn to knit properly.
Buying another craft book (not counting all the magazines I have recently bought:-)) can cost me divorce . . . for the moment I will follow your progresses. . .

  14. I would love to join in. I just got the book. I'm new to knitting (avid crocheter) and have already made a scarf, baby hat and now working on a hat for me using the Fisherman's Rib Stitch. It's soooo much fun. I think I'm a quick learner and the book looks exciting! I'm not sure how to post to your blog though, I may need some help in that area. I really don't have a lot of computer experience. Thanks for starting this challenge!
